Activity Co-ordinator

4-day course

This course is designed to highlight the importance of a co-ordinators role in the functional occupation of residents. Person centred approaches to activity are identified in order to meet the needs of residents in nursing homes.

1 day workshop

This 1 day workshop is designed for an employee to take charge in an emergency (first aid) situation.

The outcomes of the workshop are:

To enable the employee to :

  a. Perform emergency aid
  b. Demonstrate CPR on an adult
  c. Maintain personal safety
  d. Be responsible for first aid arrangements whilst at work

MOVING AND HANDLING TRAINER/ASSESSOR COURSE
5-DAY PROGRAMME

AIM
This programme is designed for staff intending to instruct and monitor employees on the principles of Safe Moving and Handling in line with the policy and procedures of the company. The programme utilises moving and handling trainer/assessor competencies from the Royal College of Nursing and the National Back Exchange

OUTCOMES
At the end of the programme the candidate will:

  1. Understand the Health & Safety issues related to Manual Handling
  2. Explain the concept of Risk Assessment
  3. Demonstrate safe practice when handling and moving
  4. Instruct staff member(s) to appreciate the principles of Moving nd Handling for practice

ASSESSMENT STRATEGY
Participants will be expected to produce a portfolio of evidence and undertake a practical assessment on day 5 to demonstrate competencies.

Should the candidate fail the assessment a re-assessment will be made at a mutually convenient date and time within a four week period in the candidates work place

  A. JSC will provide qualified facilitators
  B. JSC will provide portfolio folders, handouts and certification
  C. JSC will be a source of information to the trainers upon completion of the course

The course is facilitated by manual handling trainer/assessors who are experienced in the safe clinical handling of people both in hospital and community.

MENTORSHIP WORKSHOP

AIM
To enable the registered nurse to facilitate learning in clinical practice through effective supervision and assessment of overseas nurses undertaking the ONP.

OUTCOMES
At the end of the workshop the nurse will be able to:

  a. Define the role of the mentor/associate mentor
  b. Contribute to the development of the clinical learning environment
  c. Supervise students on ONP

DURATION
Two day workshop 09:30 – 4 pm

Registered Managers Award

This award is facilitated by JSC training in collaboration with South Trafford College and accredited by Edexcel. The structure is designed to realise the full potential of registered nurses who are working as nursing home managers in the private sector. It is anticipated that the majority of students will complete this award within 6 months.

JSC TRAINING WILL PROVIDE

  1. Facilitated learning, through 10 management focused tutorials
  2. Assessors to sign units and to provide 3/4 clinical observation visits per student
  3. Internal Verifiers
  4. Advice and guidance

SOUTH TRAFORD COLLEGE WILL PROVIDE

  A. Quality monitoring of the award
  B. External Verification by Edexcel
  C. Internal verification
  D. Observation visits

THE EXPECTATIONS OF EACH REGISTERED NURSE MANAGER ARE TO

  1. Attend the Tutorial and Assessor days
  2. Identify and record your achievements to date that are relevant to this award
  3. Arrange the observation visits with the assessor
  4. Identify your learning needs and development plan
  5. Bring any difficulties you may experience in trying to achieve your units to the attention of the Award Leader at the earliest opportunity
  6. Evaluate your achievements in relation to the award outcomes and your own goals.
